“A Journey of Empowerment: Women Leading in Technology and My Role with Valtree Corporation”
In 2012, a group of visionary leaders hosted the inaugural Women Leading in Technology (WLiT) event, aiming to foster community, share knowledge, and advance women in their careers. Fast forward to 2024, and WLiT – affectionately pronounced “double-you-lit” – has grown into a vibrant community under the Minnesota Technology Association (MnTech). This thriving network brings together women technology leaders, practitioners, service providers, and aspiring technologists to connect, educate, and empower women in Minnesota’s tech industry.
I’ve had the privilege of witnessing and contributing to this evolution firsthand. I was one of the 50 women in the room for the very first WLiT event, and I was immediately inspired. I joined the WLiT Reach Back Committee, collaborating with STEM-focused nonprofits to support girls and young women in pursuing tech careers. Today, I serve as an advisory board member, helping curate programming, educational panels, and events that attract 200+ attendees (even 300+ pre-COVID!). Through my involvement, I’ve supported events that benefit clients, colleagues, and the broader community, while helping aspiring technologists embark on their journeys in tech.
Over the past five years, I’ve had the privilege of being part of Valtree Corporation, whose values align closely with WLiT’s mission. Valtree not only appreciates my efforts but actively encourages and supports them. As a MnTech member and WLiT sponsor, Valtree has invested in the broader Minnesota tech ecosystem by contributing time, resources, and talent to initiatives that empower women in technology.
Working for a company that shares my passion for giving back has been incredibly fulfilling. The support from Valtree has amplified my ability to impact the tech community, and together, we’ve advanced the mission of WLiT and MnTech. Looking back on the past 12 years, it’s been an exciting and rewarding journey alongside dedicated professionals who are just as passionate about creating opportunities and driving change.
