How to Effectively Engage with Early-Career Professionals
This spring, Crew leaders Lydia Benge Cloeter and Maura Bremer Peterson were invited to collaborate with the Minnesota Technology Association (MnTech) for their inaugural “Tech Talk” series. This event brought together local technology leaders to explore key technology topics and issues impacting the broader IT community. The focus of this session was Building Your Workforce: How Technology Leaders are Adapting and Investing to Address the Talent Crisis.
The discussion highlighted a critical issue: “Our state is not producing enough young IT professionals to meet the demand for skilled roles, leaving employers struggling to fill positions. Too few young people, especially from diverse backgrounds, are pursuing careers in IT. As a result, employers are competing for a small pool of graduates, many of whom face difficulties finding employment due to a mismatch between the skills they have and the needs of employers. With managers under pressure to deliver results, there is little time to mentor, train, or help young professionals close these skill gaps. Entry-level job postings demand experience, but internships and opportunities for gaining that experience are scarce.”
Drawing from their successful work helping Fortune 500 companies hire and retain early-career consultants, Lydia and Maura shared their valuable insights and advice during the event.
